Gartner: 75% of Organizations Plan to Integrate IoT with Blockchain
A recent report from Gartner reveals that 75% of organizations currently using or planning to adopt Internet of Things (IoT) technology will also integrate blockchain within the next year—a figure that rises to 89% within two years. The study highlights growing confidence in combining IoT with blockchain to enhance data security, transparency, and automation.
For organizations with mature IoT implementations, the number jumps to 94%, indicating a strong preference for blockchain-enabled audit trails, smart contracts, and decentralized applications. According to Avivah Litan, Distinguished VP at Gartner, “The integration of IoT and blockchain networks is a sweet spot for digital transformation and innovation.”
The top drivers for this trend include:
-
Increased security and trust in shared, multiparty transactions
-
Cost reduction and process automation
-
Opportunities for new revenue streams and better user experiences
Gartner also cautions that this is still an emerging technology, and recommends careful evaluation of system longevity and update cycles. For certain long-lived use cases, centralized immutable databases may be more appropriate.
